Mel Griffiths – Finalist in 2019 Wellingtonian of the Year Award
The Wellingtonian of the Year Awards are a Dominion Post project and were started in 1989 to celebrate achievements and contributions across all sectors of the greater Wellington community. Recognising those individuals that make the capital city such a great place.
Now affectionately known as The Wellys, the awards night celebrates these people across nine different categories and showcases their achievements, with one overall Welly Recipient recognised as the supreme Wellingtonian of the Year winner.
This year the Awards evening was held at Te Papa on Thursday the 14th of November.
The 9 categories for Wellingtonian of the Year are:
Arts
Business
Community Service
Education
Environment
Public Service
Science & Technology
Sport
Youth
Mel was nominated, and made it as a finalist within the Business category, and though he missed out on the Award, he was justifiably proud of making it onto a short-list of such impressive people. It also helped that the award was won by Jamie Selkirk (who happens to be a good friend), co-founder of Weta Workshop and Director of Miramar Creative, and owner of an Academy Award for The Return of the King and an Oscar for Best Film.
